More Critters: The Snake

On our second-to-last day at Tesoro, Todd and I took this super long hike to a lackluster natural pool (1.5 hours one way, walking through a bog at one point and paying a random, shirtless dude $1 a piece for "entry"). On our way we came across this snake; actually, Todd almost walked into it.Mr. Snake stood in this position for 5 minutes straight. We didn't know what to do...we had to get around him to get to our destination. We ended up walking through the freaky deep brush on the side of the path just to get by. Mr. Snake just stood, as erect as in these pictures, while we walked around him and while we took pictures on the other side. He stayed in that position for so long that we turned and walked away. After we took a few steps I looked back in time to see him slither off into the brush. It was weird and totally freaky.

I was to be warned!! Oh my dear goodness. I have no idea what that post said. I saw the word "snake" and something green, and I had to get out of there. Ick, ick, ick. I still have goosebumps.

I have really liked reading these posts and seeing the pictures. You guys really saw some cool creatures. This snake is awesome! I have to ask for Bel: What does this snake eat?

You can tell Bel that this appears to be a Panama Smooth Green Snake. Although I could not find out exactly what that species eats, I did discover that most snakes eat worms, insects, lizards, small mammals such as rats and mice, birds, and frogs (thanks to Wiki Answers for that one).
There were TONS of small lizards in the area and plenty of weird insects, so it likely dined on a combination of both of those.
