I left my heart in Tesoro Escondido

Of all the places we stayed on our honeymoon, the dolphin cabana we rented at Tesoro Escondido was THE best (2nd best was Piscina Natural). Tesoro Escondido or "hidden treasure" includes a hotel and 3 cabanas that can be rented by the day or the month. The cabanas are located on the edges of cliffs just above the Caribbean ocean. The cabanas and hotel are located just 4 miles from Bocas Town, the main town on Isla Colon, one of the islands of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Those 4 miles are key - the road between Bocas Town and Tesoro is so bad - like crazy uneven and full of standing water 3 feet deep at points - that it costs $50 to take a taxi from town. The result is that not many people make it up there...nor to the amazing Playa Bluff just a 5 minute walk from our cabana (more on that in a future post). The quiet that the dolphin cabana awarded us was welcome after our 2 nights in Bocas Town at a hotel across from the ONLY club in town (the reggae-ton beats kept us awake all night).
Enough babble, you can see the awesomeness of Tesoro for yourself in the pictures below.

The view of our beach from the porch of our cabana...it really was our beach...we only saw one other person swim there (and he was employed by the owner of the hotel).

The even better view of our beach from the porch of our cabana. The best part? This exact picture is on the Tesoro website - exactly as is. How often does it happen that the view is as good as, or better than, the picture on the website?

The view of our cabana from our beach...

The front of the cabana...you can almost see the dolphins on the right side of the cabana (they are crafted out of wine bottles).
Another view of the front of the cabana...

The bottle dolphins from the inside of the cabana...

The inside of the cabana...
Our little kitchen...Todd cooked all of our meals for the entire week; I mostly did the dishes.

The inside of the cabana with a view out onto the deck...

Our hammocks on the deck...we spent a lot of time chilling in those hammocks, staring at the blue-green Caribbean and listening to the waves.
More pictures from our time in Panama to come...

Wow! That looks amazing! Did you bring food and stuff for the week with you on your $50 cab ride? Did you venture out much once you got there?

We actually got a ride in from the hotel owner, and she was picking up other guests at the same time. Luckily, we didn't have to pay the $50 cab ride. We brought all of our food and beer with us when we went out there on Monday. We were only supposed to stay until Thursday of that week, but we decided to stay an extra night so Todd made a trip into town on Wednesday (with the hotel owner again) for more groceries and beer.
