When Toddie & I showed up in West End, Roatan on October 16, things were not what we expected. September & October are low season for the Bay Islands because it's rainy season. We were confronted with both the low & rainy season elements immediately. Upon arriving, it was (1) raining and (2) all the restaurants we had read about and wanted to visit were closed. Third, the hotels/cabanas we looked at weren't nearly as exciting in person (in the rain, under an overcast sky) as they had been pictured on the internet. We walked from one end of town to the other...looking at 3 different places to stay and seeing 1, maybe 2, open restaurants. Defeated, we settled at a mediocre restaurant called Eagle Ray's (named for a ray commonly spotted on dives in the area). Eagle Ray's exposed us to one last unpleasant item...that Roatan was not nearly as cheap as Costa Rica. Burgers and sandwiches were running for $8-12 and beer was $2-3 a pop (compared to about a $1.50 a beer in Costa Rica, that's huge). What the heck!
The below video captures my trepidation (disappointment) but I give myself a bit of a pep talk (with the local beer to help me along) and I laugh a bit as well. It wasn't so bad. Seriously, we were on vacation in the Caribbean. This was the only "disappointing" time on our trip...everything else rocked! The video captures the blah weather really well...

Oh my goodness. You went on vacation and didn't know where you were staying?! Oh my goodness. You guys are so adventurous, but the thought of that makes my heart rate go up.
I just read this again, and I have to add another "Oh my goodness" for good measure.
