Toddie appropriated the camera and took the footage of Stella chewing a decoy Canadian Goose head...I'll have to post it later. Instead I'll post about one of two interesting events that occurred last week...the week of June 1st.
This first incident occurred on Monday night...(or Tuesday). There was a bunch of us at the dog park, doing the usual stare-at-the-dogs-while-playing like they were a campfire. We heard a kid kick up a fuss on the hill behind us...lots of "Daddy" and "Ahhhhhhhhhhh" and "Daddy" and "Waaaaa." He was 10 feet from a couple at a picnic table; we all assumed he belonged to the couple and was throwing a tantrum. But...his tantrum grew louder and more tantrum-ey...and his "Daddy" and "Mommy" screams grew louder and louder. Meanwhile, the couple near him just stared, annoyed (like parents who were trying to ignore a tantrum?) I noticed that his wailing started to encompass "he left me" and "Daddy where are you" and Daddy "left without me" and such. I finally said I would go check it out, just in case. Everyone in the dog park thought his parents were the couple sitting nearby...and that couple just continued to stare, annoyed. I left the dog park and the kid started walking in my direction, screaming more "he left without me" and such. I got to him and asked him if he'd lost his parents and he said YES.
He told me his name was Nate and I gave him my name. We went to check the park for his parents...but we stopped by the picnic table first. The couple was on their way out, but I stopped them and I asked "do you guys know where his parents are?" They FINALLY looked concerned, but said "no."
Nate and I proceeded around the park, looking for his parents. He explained that his dad had left him behind. I was hoping they just got separated... As we went back over the hill a young, concerned (and quite cute) man came running up. Relief appeared on his face when he saw Nate.
His dad proceeded to indicate that he had in fact left Nate at the park on accident...and then said "We have seven (kids), so I'm surprised it hasn't happened before."
I tried to look sympathetic -all the while thinking I'd be likely to lose one.
The stupid couple? They did leave the park, looking more annoyed than sympathetic. What the hell is wrong with people?!?!? Seriously.

I agree with you! How self-involved. You did a great job helping calm that little boy. He's lucky you were there.
I'm intrigued...it sounds like there are more crazy incidents. :)
I'm glad you stepped in to help. I'm proud that I am friends with YOU as opposed to that rude, horrid couple that just stared.
I read this post a while ago and didn't know what to say. It's so shocking and sad that people would actually be annoyed by a lost child instead of offering to help him. Rebecca is right...the little boy and all of us are glad we have you!
